About 28 members ventured to the Goulburn Valley Fly Fishing Centre at Thornton for the 2012 club One Fly comp. A great turnout which included many new members.This day has become a bit of a tradition, the third or fourth running of it, and is very popular with members.
Low lying fog in the morning seemed to give the trout some protection and there were a few boils and rises. It wasn't long before fish were being taken and the light hearted sledging commenced.
In typical Northern style experienced members helped a number of the new members get going. Thank-you to those members who helped out in this regard. Others were kept busy running around measuring and weighing fish.
The first 2 hours of fishing were the most productive and a number of fish were caught. It was great to see some newer members latch on to a fish or two and land their first fish on the fly! Once the fog lifted the fish seemed to go deeper and were less obliging.
The usual great BBQ spread of sausages, chicken, cold meats, bread and salads was put on and light beverages were provided for lunch. By this time the sun was out and everyone lounged around the decking recharging for the afternoon session
