Trip Description:

Lake Toolondo is located in the Wimmera in between Hamilton and Horsham about 4.5 hours drive from Melbourne via the Western Highway.
This lake is capable of yielding some true monster trout and redfin. Trout have been recorded in excess of 8kg, averaging 1kg and redfin in excess of 4kg averaging 900g.

This lake is fishable from the shore, but more ideally from some sort of water craft.
There is a boat ramp at both the north and southern ends of the lake. The northern ramp is concrete and the southern ramp is located in the caravan park and is a dirt ramp.

Accommodation:

The Wash Tomorrow Caravan Park is located at Telangatuk East Road, Toolondo at the south east corner of the lake (see map). The park and is located in a quiet rural bush setting and has on-site vans as well as powered and unpowered sites. There is a simple but clean amenities block and a large recreation room as well as an under cover BBQ area.

The Resident Manager is Bob Haines who will make you feel very welcome. Bookings can be made by telephoning the park on 03 5388 2231.

Members with boats required:
It would be great to see all members who own a boat attend this trip.  Otherwise bring a kayak or float tube.   Note: life vests are a must.

Fishing:

The lake is heavily treed in all but a few locations and teeming with weed and aquatic life such as bug (or spider) mudeye, minnow, gudgeon, yabbies some couta mudeye and mayfly nymphs.
Fly-fishing can be spectacular with large fish slamming minnow in the shallows at certain times of the year.laketoolondo
The local trout respond well to mudeye or bait fish patterns fished just above the weed beds.

Flies:

Woolly Buggers, Smelt patterns, Mrs Simpsons, Craig’s Nightime, Alexandra, Tom Jones, etc as well as midge patterns are worth a try.

Register:
Please contact me if you intend to go on this trip. Let me know if you are taking a boat or would like a seat in a boat. I will try to get everyone on a boat if possible.
