Step 1 - Lay a base of thread along the hook shank stopping above the barb. Match two feather slips the same length as the hook shank and tie them in for a tail.

Step 2 - Tie in a strand of flat silver mylar and fine round silver tinsel. Alexandra 2
Step 3 - Wrap the flat mylar over the shank in touching turns until you reach a point about 2/3rd's along the hook shank. Tie off the mylar and then wind the round tinsel over the body in 4-5 open turns. Tie off and trim any waste ends. Alexandra 3

Step 4 - Prepare and tie in a black hackle where the body has been tied off.

Step 5 - Wind a 2-3 turns of hackle and tie it off. Push as much of the hackle as possible below the hook shank. You can also pinch a bunch of hackle fibers off the feather and tie them in on the underside of the hook shank. The choice is yours to which method you prefer. Alexandra 5
Step 6 - Pinch a bunch of fibres from a peacock sword feather. You need to be careful how you handle these fibres or they will twist all over the place. Try to keep the fibers all curving the same way. Try to measure the wing so that it ends just slightly past the bend of the hook and tie it in. Trim off the waste butt ends of the feather. Alexandra 6
Step 7 - Cut another matching pair of feather slips to go on each side of the peacock sword wing as cheeks. Measure them to be the same length as the wing and tie one in on each side of the wing in turn. Trim the butt ends, form a small thread head, whip finish and varnish. Alexandra 7
